Ozwald Boateng was honoured to receive a prestigious award from the University Of Creative Arts this week, an Honorary Degree (Master Of Arts) for an Outstanding Contribution To The Clothing And Fashion Industries.

The day was an emotional one for Mr. Boateng, entrenched in tradition, something that really spoke to Ozwald’s belief in all that is British. Authentic attire unchanged for hundreds of years, and an age old ceremony culminating in a march fronted by an exquisitely costumed gentleman (clasping a sceptre might I add). This was quite something. A day so steeped in British culture could be compared only his experience of the Royal Wedding back in April…inspiring.

Mr. Boateng was joined by fellow recipient and much lauded Graphic Designer Vaughan Oliver to receive the coveted scroll, presented to him by Chancellor (and fashion legend), Zandra Rhodes. Among previous awardees are Bob Geldof and Alexandra Schulman (Vogue Editor), quite an accolade.

Ozwald commented:

“I’m really proud to receive this honorary degree. It’s a great feeling to have your years of hard work recognised. My father was a headmaster so I know he will be very proud to see me with an academic award.

“When you’re designing collections and running a business you can get lost in your own world and forget to celebrate what you’ve achieved.

“I have been very impressed with how much the students have achieved while at the UCA and hope I can inspire them to excel in their chosen careers.”

The last in the hugely popular Harry Potter series; Harry Potter And The Deathly Hallows (Part 2) was released last week, to much critical acclaim, the perfect end to one of the most successful movie saga’s in history. Being huge fans of the series, Ozwald and his children attended the Premiere at Trafalgar square and were not disappointed, the build up promised an explosive 2 hours and it certainly lived up to expectations.

In this the epic finale, the battle between the good and evil forces of the ‘wizarding’ world escalates into an all-out war. The stakes have never been higher and no one is safe. But it is Harry Potter who may be called upon to make the ultimate sacrifice as he draws closer to the climactic showdown with Lord Voldemort. But we won’t spoil it for you with too many details…

Make sure you see this movie for yourself, it is particularly impressive in 3D, available at selected cinema’s.

Hip-Hop mogul and Bad Boy legend Sean Combs, AKA Diddy, managed to squeeze in a visit to Savile Row before his big UK show, and dropped in to the Ozwald Boateng Store. Whilst down at No. 30 he caught up with the man himself, and got fitted out for a few suits while he was at it.

Ozwald and the team helped the hip-hop icon choose some key pieces from our suiting and evening wear collection whilst Ozwald took his measurements, needless to say he left the store a happy customer. You can look forward to seeing Mr. Combs sporting our latest pieces in the very near future.

Excitement is rising for fans of Christopher Nolan’s hugely successful first two chapters (Batman Begins, The Dark Knight) and filming for the latest in his adaptation of the Batman series...

Excitement is rising for fans of Christopher Nolan’s hugely successful first two chapters (Batman Begins, The Dark Knight) and filming for the latest in his adaptation of the Batman series is well underway.

Although released storylines are only rumours at this point, Nolan has already recruited a stellar cast. Gary Oldman (Commissioner Gordon), Michael Caine (Alfred) and Christian Bale (Batman) return along with a few new faces, most notably Anne Hathaway as Catwoman. The news that has caused the biggest stir at the House of Boateng however has to be the news that Ozwald Boateng customer and British style icon, Mr. Tom Hardy will be cast as muscle-bound super-villain ‘Bane.’

Mr. Hardy is something of a British acting heavyweight, and as well as 2010’s movie of the year Inception, he is known for his parts in Guy Ritchie’s RocknRolla, Layer Cake, and of course his brilliant portrayal of the infamous convict Charles Bronson, in 2009.

Based on the success of Nolan’s previous Batman instalments this promises to be massive, so keep your eyes peeled for more on Tom Hardy and The Dark Knight Rises. We wouldn’t want to miss it for the world.

The Dark Knight Rises is scheduled for release in the Summer of 2012. Click here for the official website.

Ozwald attended an exclusive post-Glastonbury performance at Shepherd’s Bush Empire from Beyonce Knowles on Monday, along with his (extremely excited) daughter. An outstanding show as ever, Miss Knowles wowed audiences, promoting her latest studio album ‘4’.

As expected it was a star-studded occasion, but the highlight of the night would have to be running in to Beyonce’s equally talented other half, and hip-hop legend, Mr Shawn Corey Carter. AKA Jay-Z. Ozwald and his daughter had a great chat with him whilst preparing for the show, a real gentleman. Other star guests included Tinie Tempah (a wearer of Ozwald Boateng no less), Tom Ford and Jenson Button.

With no play list she took requests for her biggest hits, interlinking with performances of her newest material. She really was on top form and shows no sign of slipping from her throne as Queen of Pop. A big thumbs up for Beyonce Knowles from the House Of Boateng.

An excellent evening had by both Daughter and Father alike!

So, Team Boateng are finally back from their travels across Europe and Fashion Week Fever draws to a close. The Spring/Summer shows at both Milan and Paris showcased a stunning range of talent new and old, an inspiring sight to be sure.

Personal favourites for the team included Dior Homme’s graceful shapes and sombre yet striking colour palette, along with the likes of Acne in a similar vein. Louis Vuitton delivered a very wearable collection, with strong classic looks as opposed to Catwalk statements.

A sure-fire winner for us had to be the works of Mr. Giorgio Armani. Prints are a big story for next Spring’s menswear, but when Giorgio Armani titled his new collection Printwear, it was never going to mean a world of flowers or ikat or any of the other ideas that have already presented themselves for 2012. Subtle geometry was Armani’s concession to the coming trend, like the check on a sweater that quietly dissolved into ombré, or the zigzags and houndstooths fading out on a cotton shirt and pants so light they were almost gauzy.

All in all it was a fantastic week, only leaving the team even more excited about future Ozwald Boateng collections in the pipeline. But for that you will have to wait and see…

Last week Ozwald went down to the Old Vic Theatre for the preview of Richard III, starring the legendary Kevin Spacey and directed by Sam Mendes. Nothing less than a stellar performance from Mr. Spacey, as to be expected of course, and it was a great opportunity for Ozwald to catch up with an old friend! He is a customer and friend of Ozwald’s, which of course made the performance all the more special.

The performance is part of The Bridge Project, a unique three-year series of co-productions by The Old Vic, BAM and Neal Street, devoted to producing large-scale, classical theatre for international audiences.

A busy week for our very own Ozwald Boateng. On Tuesday night he headed over to the Press Launch Night for Shrek – The Musical, with his son Oscar. Hot off the back of a ton of Tony nominations (Broadway’s equivalent to the Oscar’s) the London version has Nigel Lindsay as the grouchy ogre and Amanda Holden as Princess Fiona. An enjoyable family performance that promises to be a hit with children and parents alike. After a busy few days with the Ozwald Boateng Design team, it was on to the Wimbledon Pre-Party and the Keep A Child Alive Black Ball, hosted by Alicia Keys and Mark Ronson.

Keep a Child Alive’s Black Ball is a spectacular fundraiser where celebrity and philanthropy walk hand in hand. The evening celebrates the work of the Keep a Child Alive (KCA) charity, raising money to provide treatment, care, nutrition and a future to children and families affected by HIV/AIDS in Africa and India. It was of course a star studded event and the champagne flowed as guests enjoyed the entertainment. A host of UK talent and celebrity were in attendance namely the likes of Beth Ditto and Paloma Faith, as well as a one-off performance from man of the moment (and Ozwald Boateng customer) Tinie Tempah, with Alicia Keys herself.

After a busy night he then dropped by the Kensington Roof Gardens for the Wimbledon Pre-Party, hosted by good friend of Ozwald’s, Sir Richard Branson. It was a lavish affair, with celebrity guests welcomed by the staff clad in all white outfits, serving luxurious cocktails.

All in all, another hectic yet exciting week for Ozwald Boateng…
